The Institute  of Functional Inorganic Organic Hybrid Materials (abbreviated as IFIOH) has been founded on the basis of the previous Laboratory of Structural Chemistry of Fuzhou University which was established by Prof. Lu JiaXi (academician of CAS) in 1950s. The Institute has a long history and a great influence at both home and abroad, and has won the First National Science Prize in Fujian Province.

IFIOH lays emphasis on the original basic research on the structural chemistry while carrying on its traditions. Its interests focus on the directed synthesis and performance optimization of inorganic organic hybrid functional materials by the control of structure and energy band, as well as the study on the relationship between structures and properties of these materials with an attempt to finally realizing the theoretical design and rational systhesis of specific functional materials. The main research areas of IFIOH include inorganic organic hybrid adsorption materials, storage materials, chromic materials, magnetic materials, conductive materials, and catalytic materials.

IFIOH consists of 9 faculty members, including 3 professors and 6 associate professors (2 doctoral supervisors and 9 master supervisors). Up to now, IFIOH has undertaken more than 20 research projects supported by the National Natural Science Foundation of China, Natural Science Foundation of Fujian Province, and Research Foundation of the Education Department of Fujian Province with a total research fund of about RMB 3 million.
