The Food Security Analysis and Testing Key Lab of Ministry of Education & Fujian Province at Fuzhou University (hereinafter referred to as the "Lab") was officially approved to be constructed in 2005 and passed the examination of the Ministry of Education in 2007 when it was officially founded. Currently, there are 12 professors (among whom 10 are PhD Supervisors) and 3 are associate professors, including 1 Cheung Kong Scholar, 1 winner of National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, 3 winners of New Century Excellent Talent of Ministry of Education, 2 winners of Fujian Province Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars and 2 successful candidates of Talents in Fujian Province Project. The Lab covers an area of about 5,000 square meters intended for scientific research and has been equipped with special instruments and equipment with a total value of RMB 35 million. The Lab was selected as the member of PCSIRT in 2011 with 3 doctor’s and master’s degree conferring posts for Analytic Chemistry, Food Security and Pharmaceutical Chemistry, and Pharmaceutical Analysis, which has cultivated 43 PhD students, 413 postgraduates by 2014. There were 46 doctoral and 138 master’s degree seekers enrolled in the Lab in 2014.
The ultimate goal of the Lab is to upgrade food quality, to safeguard people’s physical health, and to boost the market competitiveness of both agriculture and food industry inChina. The Lab aims at handling the key problems existing in the food industry in China, adopts the principle of focusing on both self-reliant innovations and active introduction and makes a point to solve key problems involved in the testing, control and monitoring of the food safety in China so as to build up a scientifically supportive and innovative food security system in accordance with the status quo in China.?xml:namespace>
The major focuses of research of this Lab include the key controlling technology, food security testing techniques and relevant equipment influencing food security in food production, food processing and food circulation in China.
Ever since its establishment, the Lab has already got 105 research projects at national, provincial and ministerial levels with a total fund for scientific research of RMB 61 million, of which 38 projects are supported by the National Natural Science Foundations, 1 from the State Scientific and Technological Support Project, 1 from the State 973 Program, and 4 from the 863 Program. In recent years, the Lab has won 1 First Prize, 2 Second Prize and 3 Third Prize for scientific and technological progress of Fujian Province.
