Sponsored by Fuzhou University and co-organized by Students’Affairs Office, FZU Youth League Committee, and the College of Chemistry, the event of“Dialogue with Olympic Champions”was held in the Qishan Campus on the afternoon of October 27.
Lin Qingfeng, the Olympic Champion of the men's 69kg weightlifting category at London 2012, and Deng Wei, the Olympic Champion of the women's 63kg weightlifting at Rio 2016, as well as Mr. Chen Yong, her head coach, were invited to have a face-to-face dialogue with students of Fuzhou University. Mr. Chen Yongzheng, Secretary of the CPC Committee of Fuzhou University and Mr. Chen Shaoping, Deputy Secretary of the CPC Committee of Fuzhou University met the guests in the library meeting room.
The two Olympic champions shared with students the twists and turns on their road to success. "We believe that as long as we persist, there will be a glimpse of hope, not the opposite." said Lin who had been relegated from provincial team to municipal team twice. "Personal perseverance and people's support are two main factors of success." He added.
Ms. Deng talked about a tough time she went through in 2013 when she even thought about giving up weightlifting. Bad training performance was upsetting, but the company of her teammates, coaches and doctors, and her dream led her to success. As her head coach, Mr. Chen Yong expressed that coaches were also under great pressure in training athletes. The only effective way to release the pressure was to constantly study every detail of the game and think over possible problems that may occur.
In the interaction section, the Olympic champions shared the changes in their life after they won the gold medals, and how they adjusted themselves.
